When a soldier falls on the battlefield, the rest of their unit put up a "Battlefield Cross". The gun is planted into the ground, forming the base of the cross with the boots of the fallen soldier. Their helmet is placed on the top with the fallen soldier's dog tags hanging from the rifle.
It is eerily beautiful, a tribute to the soldier who has given his life for his fellow soldiers and country men and a way for the rest of their team to grieve the loss.

One of two best soldier memorial pins I've ever seen and owned.
My best friend and I joined the army together. We made a pack that we would meet up on our return to state side. He was with the Air Cavairy division and I was with 101st division. I made it back and he did'nt. He was in the battle of IA Drang Valley. And I wanted to get this pin to wear in honor of him the rest of my life.

I think it’s the greatest thing I could place in my hat. Being one from Viet Nam, we didn’t even come back with any welcome or others. I was drafted by the Army as a Sniper. Within 3 months I was promoted to Sargent Major, because I never missed a target. I stopped counting after 500 kills. Because I never missed they kept me for 4 years. Instead of 2.
High quality and I proudly wear it on my Army hat to the golf course every day.
